"Certificates of Candidacy" for village polls now available

MANILA (2 Apr 2018) - The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Monday announced that certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections can now be downloaded online.

James Jimenez
COMELEC Spokesman James Jimenez advised those who are looking forward to participating in the polls to just download their copy so that this early, they will have an idea of what they need to know about the COC.

"Downloading the COCs early will give them a chance to familiarize themselves with it," he said in an interview.

The COCs may be obtained either at the local Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) or downloaded from the COMELEC website.

Jimenez said that getting COCs will help them strategize, specifically with regards to the use of nicknames.

The filing of COCs for the forthcoming polls will be from April 14 to 20, 2018.

Under the law, no person shall be eligible for any barangay or SK position unless he or she files a sworn COC.

In the May 14 polls, regular voters will be electing one Barangay Chairman and seven Barangay Kagawads.

Young Filipinos, meanwhile, aged 15 to 30, are set to elect one SK chairperson and seven SK members.

Filing of the Certificates of Candidacy has been set from April 14, 2018 (Saturday) to April 20, 2018 (Friday), pursuant to Resolution 10246.

  1. May i inquire if an employee on a Job-Order status who filed her certificate of candidacy for a barangay captain post in this forth coming synchronized May 14, 2018 Barangay and SK Elections would not violate the COMELEC Law or other existing Laws if she remain on the government service as Job-Order. Or is it tolerable to remain in the government service despite filing the COC?
