INTRAMUROS, Manila - About 99.81 percent of all barangays in the country have proclaimed their winning candidates in Monday's Barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) polls, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said Tuesday.
COMELEC Acting Chairman Al Parreno said as of 7 p.m., May 15, almost all barangays in the country have announced the winners in the village and youth elections.
"We're almost done. Konti na lang (Only just a few left). Many of barangay are huge, especially in Metro Manila," he said in a press briefing on Tuesday night.
There are 42,044 barangays in the country.
Parreno added that initial estimate of the voter turnout is placed at 75 percent.
On the other hand, COMELEC Commissioner Sheriff Abas said that there was no failure of election reported in the recently concluded polls.
"We don't have any failure of elections. We held elections in 100%of precincts," he added.
Though, the poll body noted that there was a delay in a precinct in Northern Samar but elections were held there.
For his part, COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez said in the last 2013 polls, there were 130 failures of election reported. [Ferdinand Patinio, PNA]
