Tagle named as new COMELEC Overseas Absentee Voting Committee Chair

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Wednesday announced the designation of COMELEC Commissioner Lucenito N. Tagle as the new Chairman of the poll body’s Committee on Overseas Absentee Voting (COAV).

The COMELEC said in Resolution No. 9358, promulgated February 7, 2012, that Commissioner Armando C. Velasco has signified his intention to relinquish the Chairmanship of the Committee in favor of Commissioner Tagle. Velasco was designated Chairman of the COAV on August 11, 2009 by virtue of COMELEC Minute Resolution No. 09-0501.


“Notwithstanding the new designation, Commissioner Armando Velasco may continue to provide assistance to and discuss with Commissioner Lucenito N. Tagle matters concerning the Committee should the need arises,” the COMELEC said.

The COMELEC further said that the turnover process in the COAV shall be on or before February 15, 2012.

COMELEC sets May 31, 2012 as deadline of filing of Manifestation of Intent to participate in the Party-List System of Representation

Meanwhile, the COMELEC has also announced that party-list groups desiring to participate in the May 13, 2013 National and Local Elections should file with the COMELEC a Manifestation of Intent to participate in the party-list election together with its list of at least five (5) nominees, no later than May 31, 2012, at the close of business hours.

“This Commission is in the process of reviewing and collating all existing rules and regulations governing the party-list system of representation to ensure that the party-list system truly serves its purpose, as envisioned by the framers of the Constitution and of R.A. 7941, that is giving representation to marginalized and underrepresented sectors,” said COMELEC in Resolution 9359, promulgated February 8, 2012.
