The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has extended the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for the October 28 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls from three days to six days.
Candidates are allowed to file their COC from October 11 to 17, during office hours or from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In an interview, COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez said the reason for the extension is because they are expecting more candidates to file their COC.
"We expect that there will be a lot of people filing their certificates of candidacy," he said.
Originally, the filing of the COC was set from October 15 to 17, 2013. However, he noted, that the poll body will not accept the filing of COC on October 13.
Candidates may file their certificate of candidacy with the Office of the Election Officer having jurisdiction over the barangay where he is a candidate.
According to Resolution No. 9740, approved by the en banc, no person shall be elected barangay captain, member of the Sangguniang Barangay, SK chairman or members unless he files a sworn COC in triplicate in the form prescribed by the commission.
"The COC shall be filed in three legible copies with the office of the city/municipal election officer concerned," the resolution added.
The COMELEC said that the COC shall be filed by the candidate personally or by his duly authorized representatives, whose authority shall be in writing, under oath and attached thereto.
But, the poll body noted that COC filed or sent through mail, electronic mail, telegram or facsimile will not be accepted.
